TAKELEY RESERVES EASE TO VICTORY – WRITTLE 0, TAKELEY RES 6.

Takeley Reserves eased past fellow Senior Division 2 side Writtle in the 1st Round of the Denny King Memorial Cup winning 6-0.

Takeley took a hold on the game from the whistle and produced a number of chances before finally taking the lead in the 15th minute. A through ball from Josh Colson was met by DEAN McATEER who scored with ease form 15 yards.

Takeley continued to apply pressure and James (Percy) May in the Takeley goal was little more than a spectator for most of the first half. Some poor finishing from the Takeley forwards saw the score remain at 1-0 until the 37th minute when a quick kick was taken by James May who managed to knock the ball most of the length of the field to RICHARD HILSON who doubled Takeley’s lead with a crisp finish as he slid the ball under the advancing Writtle keeper.

Shortly before half time, Takeley scored a deserved 3rd goal given their dominance of the 1st half. Adam Miles headed a through ball to Lewis Williams who in turn brought the ball out from midfield. He produced a perfectly weighted lobbed pass through to BILLY MEYER who controlled the ball with his right foot before turning inside the Writtle defender and hitting the ball on the half volley with his left foot from the edge of the box.

Takeley continued where they had left off in the second half although James May was required to mop up a few long balls form the Writtle wingers. Writtle managed to sustain some pressure early in the second half in the hope of getting a goal back. However, the Takeley back 3 of Grant Wedlock, John Watters and Adam Miles had no intention of conceding a goal in this game.

The game was effectively over in the 59th Minute when Josh Colson received a quick throw from James May on the right, he advanced up the pitch and crossed the ball into the box to be met by the head of DEAN McATEER who leapt above the Writtle defender to put the ball in the top left corner.

Takeley then brought on TOM JELLIMAN for the last half hour and barely 5 minutes in, he intercepted a Writtle clearance, took on the defence and finished smartly in the bottom corner leaving the Writtle keeper stranded.

Youngsters Shane Turner and Gary Johnson were introduced for the last 15 minutes and both had chances to extend Takeley’s lead. Gary met a through ball from Richard Hilson and clashed with the Writtle keeper with the ball there to be won. He was harshly booked by referee Craig Pullen, who otherwise had an outstanding game.

SAM COLEMAN finished the scoring in the 81st minute with a touch of individual brilliance. He received a pass from Josh Colson just inside the Writtle half, beat 2 defenders and calmly slotted the ball in the Writtle goal as the keeper could only watch it go past him.
