19-10-12 Benfleet v Takeley 0 - 12
Takeley travelled to Benfleet for this game with a belief that they could get all three points and reverse the first game of the season result which saw today's hosts go home with the three points when Takeley could only muster 8 players to compete in the game. Right from the first whistle Takeley took the game to Benfleet and the first corner of the match was won on the left which Kelly Holsworth floated into the six yard box over the heads of the players at the near post to Jill Bartholomew who had the easiest of chances to nod the ball over the line for the opening goal on 2 minutes.
Two minutes later Holsworth found Bartholomew who played in Wendy Rankin and she shot across the keeper and inside the far post for Takeley's second.
Takeley's third on 9 minutes saw some delightful approach play as Bartholomew linked up with Adele Hughes she laid the ball back to Bartholomew who fed Holsworth and although her effort was saved by the keeper, but she could not hold the ball and as it rebounded off her Wendy Rankin was there to covert for 3-0.
Space was being found all over the park and the free running Holsworth was at the centre of most, when she popped up on the left her cross into the box was met right on cue by Adele Hughes who headed a superb goal for 4-0 on 17 minutes.
Great interplay across the pitch saw the ball finally at Jill Bartholomew's feet and she converted for No. 5 on 33 minutes. It was Rankin who became supplier next on 37 minutes when she found Jill Bartholomew inside the box for her to covert to make the score 6-0. Shannon Hardinges came into the game a bit more as we approached the half time and her cross into the box was met by Jill Bartholomew who again scored with the keeper not able to get near the ball with 39 minutes gone. Just before the half time whistle Wendy Rankin added another when she was found by Bartholomew to end the half 8-0
After the interval it was inevitable that Benfleet would try to be more proactive defensively and it was up to Takeley to remain in the correct formation to try and again push for more goals. We did not have to wait long before Jill Bartholomew was on the score sheet again. A through ball from midfield was controlled and dispatched into the net for the score to rise to 9-0, on 53 minutes.
Bartholomew and Rankin combined for the 10th goal with Wendy Rankin firing across the goal line. Charlotte Freeman who replaced Aime Jones on 58 minutes was first to react and she saved the ball from going out of play and crossed the ball back into the box for Jill Bartholomew to hit her 6th and Takeley's 10th of the game.
More pressure from the visitors saw a calamitous back pass to the Benfleet keeper and from the resultant free kick KellyHolsworth got her name on the score sheet for 11-0.
A training game possession and keep ball moves saw the ball move across the park and back again before Kelly Holsworth ended the game with a solid strike for a final score line of
Benfleet 0 Takeley 12.
A very solid performance from a group of women who now believe in their own abilities and the collective abilities of the team
